The Bashiyya Madrasa was built in 1752 by Ali Pasha I who also built Madrasa al- Sulaymaniyya (Médersa Es Slimaniya) next door. This building is roofed over, and gives onto the street leading towards the Zitouna mosque through a short covered section which has a hammam opposite. The picture far right shows the columns painted as advertisement for the hammam. Next door is the al-Nakhla madrasa (En Nakhla- the palm tree) built by Husayan b. Ali, founder of the Husaynid dynasty in 1714. The picture near right shows the street doorway. Below is detail of the inscription above it.
