Biography
Sean Scalmer studied politics, industrial relations and political economy at the University of Sydney in the early 1990s. He wrote his doctoral dissertation on intellectuals and class in the Australian labour movement. Sean worked as a research fellow in the Department of Politics at Macquarie University (1998-2004), and then as a Lecturer in the Department of Sociology (2004-2006). He joined the School of Historical Studies at the University of Melbourne in 2007.
Research
Sean's research interests include the history of social movements of all kinds, globalisation, the sociology of work, democracy, non-violence, and historiography. Current projects include: The Circulation of Nonviolence, Democracy and Change in NSW, and Australians at Work.
